A composite filling consists of a plastic with a glass filler and is used to restore teeth.  It can also be used as a cosmetic or aesthetic enhancement for chipped, spaced, broken or decayed front teeth.

Firstly, the tooth is prepared and the offending problem is removed.  The ‘composite’ filling is then placed in layers using a light to ‘cure’ it.  Once it is placed, it is shaped and polished to protect against future problems and to completely match the existing tooth.

Aesthetics is the main advantage.  Since different shades can be used to completely match the teeth.  Composites bond to the remaining tooth structure.  This helps by preventing breakage and insulating the tooth against cold or temperature changes.

There are a number of different methods to restore affected teeth or create a happy smile.  Silver amalgam fillings, gold fillings, inlays, onlays, veneers and crowns are just a few.  We at the Yonge Eglinton Centre dental clinic believe that composite fillings can be a fantastic choice when deciding the best way to improve your oral health and aesthetics.
