3D printing is the new technology which is becoming main stream. This recent article shows the uses of such devices in modern medicine.
In June 2012, a 3D-printed lower jaw was fitted to an 83-year-old woman in Netherlands. The implant was built by LayerWise, a Belgium manufacturer, based on research from the Biomedical Research Institute at Hasselt University in Belgium. The implant was made with titanium powder. The doctors carried out the procedure claimed that it was the first operation of this kind in the world.
